Vancouver Olympics

Well, the Olympics have come and gone. We had a lot of fun being in the same country where they were happening even though we are totally far away. Our favorite events are still the obvious ones like figure skating and the ones I remember from the Commodore 64 video games of yore like the Aerials and Ski Jump. It was our first time watching the snowboard half pipe and even though I think Shaun White's hair is disgusting, he is quite amazing. Surprisingly the big thrill of the Olympics around here has been all the Olympic mascots. Maybe you've never even seen them or heard of them but Chloe is in love and frankly it seems like they have become the new "it" item in the kindergarten. Good thing we're so hip because she does have one of the little keychain stuffed versions of them. Here is what they look like incase you've never seen them before.

Here is the beloved link that Chloe can't stop getting onto. I don't know how long they'll keep the site up after the Olympics. This is all a whole new world for me. Here they are with their names.

Miga is the beloved. She is the only girl. She is an orca who turns into a bear on land. This one is so "What?" but apparently it is all part of an Indian legend from the BC area. They call the native Canadians, "First Nations" here. Same idea. They were here first. Miga loves to snowboard and surf.



This is Sumi. He is part thunderbird, part bear and wears an orca hat. He has a really cute video on the website where he flies. He is also the mascot for the upcoming Paralympic games.


Quachi is probably my favorite. He is a Sasquatch "Bigfoot". He is cute and friendly and he loves hockey. Chloe sounded out his name. I love how she spelled it. Quachi is sold out everywhere so I would guess he is the most popular one for the rest of Canada.
And finally there is Muk Muk. He is actually not officially a mascot although he is quite popular with the kids because he is so fat and cute. He is a marmot so she drew him in his burrow.
